A good DEAL for County Durham
Durham Energy Association Limited is a not-for-profit community benefit society working to deliver sustainable, reliable energy solutions for community buildings across County Durham.
DEAL focuses on installing fully funded solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and battery storage systems, helping community organisations reduce energy costs, lower carbon emissions and strengthen the long-term sustainability of their buildings.
RDC leading on the development of DEAL
We are working closely with Durham Community Action to engage community buildings and local organisations across County Durham. The initiative has also brought together community representatives and technical experts to help shape its development and governance.
With funding support from Great British Energy and the North East & North Yorkshire Net Zero Hub, feasibility studies have now been completed for 15 community buildings across the county. These assessments explored the suitability of solar PV and battery storage systems and the potential financial and environmental benefits for each site. A growing number of other organisations are also expressing interest.
Fully funded solar panels and battery storage
DEAL is designed to help community organisations access renewable energy systems without having to manage complex installation projects themselves. Where funding can be secured, DEAL aims to oversee the installation, ownership and management of equipment on behalf of participating organisations.
As further funding opportunities emerge, we hope to move into future delivery phases and welcome conversations with more community buildings interested in exploring renewable energy solutions.
